European Radar Data and the Challenge of Quality Control

We’re now processing the EUMETNET OPERA composite, making pan-European radar reflectivity available alongside the North American radar products we already offer. But combining radar data from more than 30 countries and over 160 radars comes with some unique challenges. In this post, we look at what those challenges look like, how they compare with MRMS, and how we’re working with the data in Boxer and Terrier.

European Weather Radar Now Available

We’ve begun testing a new European weather radar composite to expand our international data offerings. While the data is reliable, quality control presents some interesting challenges compared to the U.S. MRMS mosaic. Here’s what we’ve learned so far, and where we may take it next.

The Truth About AI-Generated Code Isn’t What You Think

During the summer of 2026, three meteorology students used AI to build weather applications for storm chasing, fishing, and aviation. Their experience revealed an important lesson: AI-generated code can accelerate software development, but domain expertise is still essential for validating results, solving complex problems, and building tools people can trust.

Meandair Weather Models Now Available

Meandair Weather Models Now Available

We’re continuing to expand the specialized datasets available across our platform, including weather models from Meandair. By blending satellite imagery with multiple forecast models, these datasets provide more precise short-term cloud cover forecasts, along with forecasts of turbulence, precipitation, thunderstorms, and more. Available through Terrier, WCS, and Labrador, the data can be displayed, queried, and transformed for a wide variety of operational workflows.

Exploring Real-Time Precipitation Type in Alaska

Exploring Real-Time Precipitation Type in Alaska

Our future radar work in Alaska surfaced a familiar challenge: real-time precipitation type. While MRMS and radar sensors provide strong signals, gaps remain—especially when classification is missing. By blending radar with model data like HRRR and NDFD, we see a path toward a more complete and intuitive precipitation layer. It’s not perfect yet, but we’re ready to solve this problem when the need arises.

Making Radar More Useful with Future Radar Data

Making Radar More Useful with Future Radar Data

Future Radar uses advected radar to show where precipitation is headed in the near term. It looks like radar, but adds just enough forward insight to make it more actionable, whether you’re building visualizations or triggering alerts.

Why Reliable Aviation Weather Data Matters for Flight Operations

Why Reliable Aviation Weather Data Matters for Flight Operations

Weather affects every stage of a flight, from planning and routing to landing at the destination airport. Aviation companies depend on reliable aviation weather data to monitor storms, icing conditions, turbulence, and cloud cover. When this data is easy to access and integrate into operational tools, flight teams can make faster decisions and reduce risk.

How Mixed Precipitation Types Form in Winter Storms

How Mixed Precipitation Types Form in Winter Storms

Winter storms rarely produce just one precipitation type. When warm and cold layers overlap in the atmosphere, they can create a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain across the same region. Understanding these mixed precipitation types starts with looking at the temperature profile between the cloud deck and the ground.

Have a project in mind?

We are a Software as a Service company, and we charge accordingly. Our customers rent their own Boxer stack and gain access to our Terrier front-end libraries. We process a variety of standard data sets, which is…. standard. But we also process custom data you may buy or generate yourself. That’s where things get interesting
